Issue 14. September 2019

Dear contact.firstname

Welcome to this month's In Brief! September has arrived and with it our autumn round of membership-inclusive Executive Insight sessions, this time with the Regulator of Social Housing (RSH). We are now mid-way through this round of meetings and unsurprisingly, the potential implications of the new government and continued uncertainty surrounding Brexit were at the forefront of discussions.

Consumer regulation remains a key talking point across the sector, particularly in light of the Consumer Regulation Review published by the RSH in July. At the time we summarised some important learning points and what you can do to respond, in case you missed it you can catch up with it here.

What has been clear from these sessions, and our ongoing work with social landlords, is the sector’s drive and enthusiasm to proactively meet the challenges of the green paper despite the paralysis in Westminster. This has been clear from the response to our STAR review, with 257 landlords taking part in our sector-wide survey. But we have not only seen this level of response from providers; we have now heard from more than 7,000 tenants. This overwhelming level of response represents one of the largest tenant resident consultation activities in recent years and shows a clear desire from residents that their voices are heard.

We will be sharing the sector-wide survey findings later this month in Inside Housing, so look out for your copy! The first-look recommendations for a refreshed framework will be shared exclusively at the Housing Data and Analytics Summit taking place in Birmingham on 1 October. There’s more information on how to secure your place below.

Work smarter, save time and empower your people with Photobook

We'd like to introduce the recently-improved Photobook, powered by HouseMark.

Photobook is an inspection and survey app and online portal that enables your teams to deliver any inspection, survey or questionnaire digitally.

-Empower your front line and free up their time.

-Work flexibly across your organisation.

-Quickly create reports and back up instantly.

"Photobook is a sleek, easy to use app interface that allows our staff to record issues found on site in real time, rather than having to come back to the office and type up what they had recorded on paper, which was the way they had been working previously... We can really see the positive impact it has had on those who use it in their day to day role."

Are you a housing association taking part in the Sector Scorecard?

The Sector Scorecard is an initiative to benchmark housing associations' performance and assess value for money using a small suite of easy-to-complete measures. So far this year we have collected submissions from over 100 housing associations across the UK, with initial results summarised exclusively for members on our Knowledge Base. Don’t forget, HouseMark members can benchmark as soon as your data is uploaded by running our Sector Scorecard online reports.

If you haven’t taken part yet, the closing date for entry is 30 September 2019. A sector-wide analysis report will be published in the autumn which will highlight key trends in the sector, showing housing associations’ commitment to transparency and accountability to tenants and other stakeholders.

To find out more about taking part in the exercise, please contact our Data and Research team 024 7647 2707 data@housemark.co.uk.

#HousingDay 2019 - we want to showcase your community investment initiatives

Tuesday 8 October is Housing Day 2019 and we want to use the day to showcase the great work of our members! The theme this year is 'Community Investment', so we want to hear about providers who are going above and beyond to invest in their residents' communities despite the challenging financial and regulatory climate of recent years.

We will be sharing the initiatives on social media, as well as publishing on our
Knowledge Base to share best practice and ideas across our membership network.

If your organisation fits the bill, please contact Emily Cullingham at
emily.cullingham@housemark.co.uk to get involved!
