SCCI1609: Child Protection - Information Sharing (CP-IS)

The ISN for SCCI1609 CP-IS was published on 6 July 2015, setting a full conformance date of 31 March 2018. After discussion with providers and system suppliers, NHS Digital requested an extension to this conformance date. This extension has been agreed by the Data Coordination Board (the successor to SCCI) on the basis that no changes have been made to the standard; full conformance is now set at 31 March 2019.

An updated ISN has been published to announce the change to the original conformance date. No other changes are introduced, and the original Requirements Specification and Implementation Guidance, available on the
SCCI1609 web page, remain current.

DCB2094 Sexual Orientation Monitoring

DCB2094 Sexual Orientation Monitoring (SOM) was published on 5 October 2017. Some concerns have since been raised around the SNOMED CT coding of some of the SOM categories. These concerns have been investigated by the NHS Digital Terminology and Classifications Service and an identified issue now needs international collaboration to bring to a conclusion.

Once achieved, an amendment to the standard will be considered by the Data Coordination Board and you will be informed of any approved updates to the standard via our usual Notifications.

Please contact
standards.assurance@nhs.net if you have any queries about this coding issue.

Data Collections

Recently assured data collections and extractions

A number of data collections and extractions have recently been assured and awarded Assurance Certificates and our Assurance Certificates Register has been updated to reflect this.

The Register allows you to see if an information standard or collection has been through our assurance process and provides an indication of your requirement to implement an information standard or participate in a collection.

More information about Assurance Certificates, including the Register of issued certificates, is available on our Assurance Certificates web page.

Consultations

We provide details of data and technology consultations which may be of interest to our subscribers. While we encourage our subscribers to participate, these do not form part of any DCB assurance activity.

NHS Digital Data and Technology Standards

In October 2018, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Matt Hancock, published a policy paper entitled The future of healthcare: our vision for digital, data and technology in health and care. This paper announced that "our ambition should be for the use of the best technology available for the NHS and social care sector". The vision is underpinned by a commitment to the development and use of standards that allow the full potential of modern technology to be put in the service of health and care.

Alongside the vision, a draft framework for NHS digital, data and technology standards was published and it was announced that a set of specifications covering each area of this framework would be developed over the coming weeks and months. Drafts of these documents are now ready and have been published on the NHS Digital website and our public collaboration site.

We are now consulting on the standards that are included in these specifications to identify those that are critical to the digital future of health and care and we would like feedback from both system suppliers and health and care organisations.

National Data Guardian: a consultation on priorities

In December 2018, Parliament passed the Health and Social Care (National Data Guardian) Act 2018, which enshrines the National Data Guardian (NDG) role in law and gives it the power to issue guidance on matters related to the processing of health and adult social care data.

In preparation for this new phase, the NDG has been considering what its key priorities should be and is now consulting on four proposed priorities. Feedback is invited from patients, the public, clinicians, researchers and other stakeholders.
