01 UK retailers urge a rethink on Brexit food controls

In advance of a UK/EU summit on 19th May to 'reset' trade relationships, UK retailers and food producers are urging a removal of health certs and customs bureacracy, as costs spiral and food & drink exports to Europe continue to fall.

02 FDA tackle food dyes, while USDA pull back from Salmonella Rule

Marking a major move, the FDA have announced a plan to phase out synthetic food dyes from US foods. But also this week, the USDA have withdrawn the proposed Salmonella Rule for raw poultry, which would have placed stricter limits on the serotypes that cause the most human illness.

03 China turns to South America for poultry?

The Chinese Vice Ministry of Customs (GACC) has approved a resumption of poultry products from Argentina after imports were halted in 2023, playing to the view we reported in recent weeks that South America will be a major beneficiary of the US agricultural tariffs on its trading partners.

05 New outbreaks of avian flu hit 4 European countries

Though the European flu season is waning, new outbreaks of avian influenza have been recorded in commercial poultry flocks in Britain, Hungary, Poland and Denmark this past week. With 15 new cases on poultry farms, Hungary has been the hardest hit by the disease this year.
