Why is my job not being processed?

There can be several reasons for this issue. Most often, the error cause can be found in the printer calibration, the hotfolder content, the services, or the PDF file itself.

Can I print my proof together with my company logo or other custom data automatically?

Yes, this is possible. To achieve this, insert the desired data such as logos, static information, and text into a single image file. Then define the file as control strip and select it in your workflow properties.

Where can I find a summary of my processed jobs?

In GMG ColorProof, you have two options for creating a history of your finished jobs: manually or automatically. The automatic job report option is disabled by default.

What is the definition of "multicolor"?

In a multicolor workflow, the standard CMYK ink set is extended with additional colors, thus enhancing the color space. Especially the 7-ink combination CMYK + OGV, i.e. the additional use of orange, green, and violet, can be very beneficial. With these seven inks, you can cover a very wide range of spot colors without changing inks on the press.

Calibration

Why does my printer calibration not start?

If your printer does not print although you have started a calibration, this can have several causes.

What can I do if my calibration fails?

If a calibration fails, the error may be caused by the printer itself, the inks, or the inserted medium.

Verification

Can I verify spot colors with GMG ProofControl / GMG ProofControl Inline?

Yes, spot colors can be verified. As with pure CMYK ink sets, this is done based on previously measured and thus fixed defined color values.

Why does the spot color on my proof differ visually from the Pantone® color guide?

Printed Pantone® color guides, like all printed products, are subjects to production fluctuations and age-related color changes. They are thus not a reliable reference for comparison.

What is GMG ProofControl Inline?

With GMG ProofControl Inline, your control strips are fully automatically verified by your internal measuring device immediately after printing. This additional option for GMG ColorProof is chargeable, licenses can be requested from our sales channel partners. Further information on GMG ProofControl Inline can be found under the following link: Proof Verification.

Why does GMG ProofControl Inline not print a label on the proof?

In order for the verification to be printed out automatically, the setting for automated label printing must be activated in GMG ColorProof. Your printer's internal measuring device must be selected in the job and workflow properties.

Can I use GMG ProofControl Inline with my own custom proof standard?

Yes, you can. To do so, link your proof standard in GMG ColorProof to the corresponding GMG ProofControl standard. If a corresponding print standard is not listed yet, it can be created automatically as part of the linking process.

How can I create a GMG ProofControl standard for my own custom proof standard?

You can have a GMG ProofControl standard generated automatically by using the Generate From Proof Standard feature. The calculation is based on the target values in the profile and according to ISO 12647-7:2016.

Network

Should I connect my printer via USB or the network?

We recommend connecting via a TCP / IP network connection. Compared to a USB connection, it offers the advantage of always reporting the correct printer status to GMG ColorProof and thus, possible hardware problems can be solved faster. This is also the only connection type allowing direct control of internal measuring devices.

Which ports and URLs are used by GMG ColorProof?

An overview of the ports and URLs used can be found on our website under the following link:  (see "Ports and URLs")

How can I use hotfolders from my workspace?

GMG ColorProof GO

Can I share the job monitoring with other users?

Yes, this is possible. Use the integrated invite function of GMG ColorProof GO to invite other users by e-mail to your desired instance. Thus, each user receives their own login for job monitoring.

Where can I view and change the permissions for individual users?

Click on the gear icon in the upper right corner of GMG ColorProof GO and select Users. Under Role. You can then view the status of the individual users and change it if necessary.

How can I delete a user from my system administration?

In the settings, you can withdraw a user's access authorization for single or all systems. After logging in to their GMG ColorProof GO account, this user will no longer be able to view your instances, nor will they appear in your overview.

Why is a user displayed grayed out in my overview?

This is the case if the user has never before logged into the particular instance next to which their name appears in gray. Please make sure that they have received the e-mail invitation and followed the steps listed in it. Please also consider a possible spam folder.

Why does a user appear more than once in my overview?

This is the case if this user has been granted access to more than one connected GMG ColorProof system. In the user overview under User, their ID is then listed multiples times, but under Site Access, a different GMG ColorProof system is listed in each case.

Can I monitor several GMG ColorProof GO instances at the same time?

Yes, this is possible if you register with the same e-mail address for all relevant instances. To do this, use the invitation function in GMG ColorProof GO under Menu (gear icon) > Users > Invite User. If you are then logged in with this e-mail address, you can monitor all the relevant instances simultaneously.

Why does GMG ColorProof GO not connect to GMG ColorProof?

Please make sure that you have a license for GMG ColorProof GO. A Software Update Contract (SUC) is required for this.

Why do I not see any jobs even though GMG ColorProof is connected?

This may be due to incorrect time and date settings on your Windows system. Please check them and make corrections if necessary.

GMG DotProof

What is GMG DotProof?

With GMG DotProof, you can create color accurate halftone proofs. In addition to the color appearance, the dots of the printing screen are also simulated here so that unwanted effects, e.g. moiré, can be avoided in the final print. Data processing errors in the CtP RIP can also be detected at an early stage, as GMG DotProof can use the same 1-bit files that are used for exposing the printing plates. You can find further information in our information brochure.

What is a 1-Bit TIFF (.tif)?

A 1-Bit TIFF is one of always several color separation image files. Each of these files contain the screening information for only one single color. Thus, for example, there are four individual 1-Bit TIFF files for a four-color job. In combination, all the individual color separation image files result in the final output image. You can find further information on this topic under Separated Multi-File Images (1 Bit).

How can I use GMG DotProof with 1-Bit files from the CtP-RIP?

For this, you need a GMG medium and a proof standard that contains an MX5 or MXD profile. If you do not have such a profile yet, you can create it with GMG ProfileEditor or GMG OpenColor in a few steps. The important thing here is that the screening data from the profile exactly matches that from the 1-Bit files.

Can I use GMG DotProof without 1-Bit TIFF files from the CtP-RIP?

We recommend you to use the original 1-Bit files from the CtP-RIP. If these are not available to you, you can alternatively have 1-Bit TIFF files created from your PDF or PS file using GMG 1-Bit Creator. Please note, however, that the halftone shape and angle arrangement may differ from the actual exposure result in this case.

GMG ProfileEditor

Can I create a high-resolution ICC profile from an MX4 file?

No, but you can use the GMG ProfileEditor to export the target values and actual values into a CGATS text file instead. This file can then be used in common ICC profiling solutions as a basis for profile calculation.

Printers General

Why should I adjust the paper feed?

The paper feed behavior may differ from the ideal setting due to manufacture tolerances and wear. In the final print, this can lead to unwanted results affecting the measured color values. The automatic GMG paper feed adjustment detects hardware irregularities and compensates for them by adjusting the paper feed settings exactly according to the individual conditions. This ensures a high print quality at all times.

How can I adjust the paper feed?

For Epson printers with only one print head and internal measurement device ILS30, we recommend the automatic paper feed adjustment. Please click the following link for detailed instructions: Automatic Paper Feed Adjustment. If your printer does not have an internal ILS30 unit or is equipped with two print heads, it is possible to adjust the paper feed manually as described under the following link: Manual Paper Feed Adjustment.

When should I adjust the paper feed?

In order to ensure optimum print quality, we recommend the paper feed adjustment in the following cases:
  • when setting up a printer for the first time
  • when using a new media type for the first time
  • in case of calibration issues
  • in case of exceeding tolerances despite successful printer calibration

Can I use my custom profile for several printers?

To ensure highly accurate color images, each profile is made to match a specific combination of device type, media, and print mode. Thus, a profile can only be used for other printers under certain conditions.

Which printers are compatible for remote proofing?

Different printers can only be used in a common remote proofing workflow if they belong to the same device group.

Why does my printer eject unprinted media short before the roll ends?

This happens when the last piece of media has already disconnected from the cone. This is a normal behavior of the Epson SureColor SC-P7500 / SC-P9500 due to its construction.

Why is my control strip not measured for the last job at a roll?

This happens if the end of the roll is reached at the same time as your job and the media has already come off the core. In this case, the printer cannot rewind it anymore to measure the control strip. This is a normal behavior of the Epson SureColor SC-P7500 / SC-P9500 due to its construction.

Can I use my printer with GMG DotProof?

Yes, as of version 5.12.1.309, GMG ColorProof also supports the creation and use of profiles for the models Epson SureColor SC-P7500 and Epson SureColor SC-P9500.
