Tropical Storm Cempaka

The Hong Kong Observatory has this afternoon (19 July), issued a Tropical Warning Bulletin in anticipation of Tropical Storm Cempaka.

At 4pm local time, Cempaka was estimated to be about 180km southwest of Hong Kong (near 21.1 deg. N, 113.0 deg. E) and forecast to move north slowly, gradually edging closer to the vicinity of the area to the west of the Pearl River Estuary.

The storm system has drifted slowly to the north and will edge gradually close to the coast of western Guangdong. Winds in the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary are expected to strengthen tonight and tomorrow morning. The Strong Wind Signal, No. 3 will remain in force for some time.

The track and intensity changes of Cempaka remain uncertain. The Observatory will closely monitor its movement and development.

Associated rain bands will bring occasional heavy showers and squalls to the territory tonight and tomorrow.
