Anchorage area closed to shipping

25 Nov 2021 / Port Kembla, Australia

Port Kembla Harbour Master has advised that the anchorage will be closed to all shipping at 2100 hours local time today (25 November), due to the large swell and strong wind conditions expected in Port Kembla over the coming 48-72 hours.

The anchorage will remain closed until further notice and all vessels will instructed to proceed to sea and remain minimum 12 nautical miles offshore.

The port will presently remain open to habour movements, and the Harbour Master will review all shipping movements on a case-by-case situation.

All vessels in port at certain berths will be instructed to lower their anchor to the seabed and run extra lines if necessary. All vessels are to always keep a check on their lines at all times.
