Textile mending with Celia Pym

Join this workshop with artist Celia Pym and learn how to repair your knitwear considering the tenderness and care of mending.

EVENT NOW SOLD OUT.

What to expect

Practice mending techniques on knitting with no previous darning, knitting, needle-based experience necessary.

Bring your own garment of choice to be repaired – a holey sweater or sock!

Learn about artists working with repair and develop skills in woven and fake ‘knitted’ darning most useful for knitted garments.

There will also be an opportunity to work on repairing your own well-loved garments that have holes. Please bring along any damaged items that you would like to discuss repair options for.

Celia’s interests are around the evidence of damage – through repair you look closely at where garments and cloth have worn. In clothing, this wearing often has to do with the use and how the body moves. She explores the difficulties of mending other people’s clothes, the materials used for mending, and making the damage visible.

'Darning is often small acts of care and paying attention to where things fray and wear out.', Celia Pym.
