Into Europe: Ireland & the EU 1973-2023 

Der 1. Januar markiert Irlands 50jährige Mitgliedschaft in der damaligen Europäischen Wirtschaftsgemeinschaft und heutigen Europäischen Union. Irlands Entscheidung, der EWG in 1973 beizutreten, wird oftmals als bedeutendste Entwicklung in der irischen Außenpolitik seit Gründung des irischen Staates im Jahr 1922 beschrieben. Während der vergangenen 50 Jahre hat sich in der irischen Gesellschaft ein großer Wandel vollzogen; Irland hat sich von einem isolierten Inseldasein mit einer kleinen Wirtschaft am Rande Europas hin zu einer der weltweit offensten, globalisiertesten und fortschrittlichsten Gesellschaften weltweit entwickelt.
 
Um diesen wichtigen Meilenstein zu würdigen, organisiert Irland eine Reihe von Veranstaltungen und blickt unter dem Thema „Frieden, Fortschritt, Wohlstand“ zurück auf 50 Jahre Mitgliedschaft in der Europäischen Union.  Im Rahmen dieser Veranstaltungsreihe zeigt das Generalkonsul von Irland mit Sitz in Frankfurt eine Ausstellung mit dem Titel „Into Europe: Ireland & the EU 1973-2023“, die den Enfluß der Mitgliedschaft Irlands in der EU aus vielen unterschiedlichen Perspektiven darstellt. Die Ausstellung umfasst 12 Informationstafeln mit Bild und Text, die eine große Bandbreite an Themen wie z.B. den Binnenmarkt, die Geschlechtergleichstellung, Friedensförderung, Kultur, Identität und Sprache beinhaltet.
 
Into Europe: Ireland & the EU 1973-2023 

The 1 January 2023 marked 50 years since Ireland joined the then European Economic Community, today the European Union. Ireland’s decision to join the EEC in 1973 is often characterised as the most momentous development in Irish foreign policy since the foundation of the Irish state in 1922. Over the past 50 years, Irish society has been transformed; from an isolated island on the periphery of Europe with a small economy, since 1973 Ireland has evolved into one of the most open, globalised and progressive societies in the world. 
 
To mark this important milestone, Ireland has organised a number of events to reflect on our 50 years membership of the European Union under the theme of ‘peace, progress, prosperity’. As part of these events, the Consulate General of Ireland in Frankfurt, is displaying an exhibition, ‘Into Europe: Ireland & the EU 1973-2023’, which explores the impact EU membership has had on Ireland from many different perspectives. The exhibition consists of 12 panels and covers topics such as the economy, gender equality, peace, the single market, and agriculture, amongst others.
