Suspension of cargo operations at berths

01 Dec 2021 / Krishnapatnam, India

Due to the recent Cyclone in the Bay of Bengal and subsequent rainfall and flooding in the Krishnapatnam port region for the past 15 days, the entire navigation Channel and the Creek (berth area) at Krishnapatnam port has been severely affected due to strong underwater currents. Vessel’s parted mooring ropes and was unable to stay alongside, particularly at Berth No. N-5 and Berth No. N-4.

The port has suspended all cargo operations at both these berths. Presently, vessels at Berth No.N-4 have been shifted back to anchorage and Berth No. N-5 to Berth No. S-4. Operations at these berths are expected resume once conditions are favourable.

Presently there is no reduction in draft in the channel or berths.

The situation has also impacted stevedoring operations as productivity has dropped drastically.

In view of the above, berthing delays can be expected for vessels calling Krishnapatnam in the coming days.
