Fuel levy to be implemented

10 May 2022 / Geelong & Port Jackson/Botany, Australia

Due to the unprecedented rise and volatility in the cost of fuel in Australia in recent times, from 1 June 2022 Engage Towage will implement a fuel levy at the ports of Geelong and Port Jackson/Botany, based on the below:

  • Data will be sourced from the Australian Institute of Petroleum from one of their standard indexes.
  • The Singapore price for Diesel (Gasoil 10ppm sulphur) index will be measured in AUD (which is converted from USD on the daily exchange rate) per Barrel and converted to a price per litre.
  • This measurement will occur on a monthly basis looking at the average daily rate for that month.
  • The new fuel levy will be announced on the first working day of any given month, to be applicable for the following month (i.e. a month’s notice).

The table of measurements is as below:
- Price per Litre: $0.94 / Levy per Tug Job: $110.00
- Price per Litre: $1.01 / Levy per Tug Job: $130.00
- Price per Litre: $1.07 / Levy per Tug Job: $150.00
- Price per Litre: $1.13 / Levy per Tug Job: $170.00
- Price per Litre: $1.20 / Levy per Tug Job: $190.00
- Price per Litre: $1.26 / Levy per Tug Job: $210.00
- Price per Litre: $1.32 / Levy per Tug Job: $230.00
- Price per Litre: $1.38 / Levy per Tug Job: $250.00
- Price per Litre: $1.45 / Levy per Tug Job: $270.00
- Price per Litre: $1.51 / Levy per Tug Job: $290.00
- Price per Litre: $1.57 / Levy per Tug Job: $310.00

The levy will be applied per tug, per movement, on each invoice as its own line item. Should the average price per litre for the month fall below the $0.94 datum, then no fuel surcharge will apply for the relevant period.

With the average of daily prices as described above for the month of April being $1.27, the surcharge effective 1 June will be $210 per tug job.
