Terminal status after storms

Following severe storms in the Kwa-Zulu Natal area, Transnet Port Terminals (TPT) have advised that all terminals at Durban are operational from today (13 April), but not at 100% capacity.

There has been no major damage to terminal equipment and infrastructure. Some operational areas are waterlogged however this will recede. Full operational capacity is expected to be restored before the end of the week.

Some employees have been impacted as the roads to their residences are still inaccessible in various areas.

PIER 1
Operations have commenced with as staff compliment of 73%. There are 2 vessels on the berths with a total of 4 gangs (2 gangs per vessel) with 1 vessel at outer anchorage. Traffic volumes are currently low with only 15 trucks in the staging area. No appointment slots will be available. Rail is operational with one gang.

PIER 2
Operations have commenced with a staff compliment of 50% but with 4 gangs from midday today with one gang deployed on each berth. The focus remains on clearing the backlog of traffic on the landside. There are 2 vessels at outer anchorage. Landside operations commenced with 105 trucks inside the terminal and 292 trucks in the staging area. All resources have been deployed on the landside to clear the backlog of traffic. No truck appointment slots will be available until further notice. The Terminal will provide an update via the usual communication platforms once appointments slots reopen. Rail operations are due to commence today.

MPT
There are 2 vessels on the berths with a manning level of 2 gangs. The manning level is expected to go up to 4 gangs today. Landside operations are focusing on imports.
Rail operations remain suspended.

CAR
There are 3 vessels on the berths. Berth G has commenced operations with full staff compliment. Berth Q/R is ready to commence operations. Berth L/M is on standby currently. The driver compliment is +50% capacity.
Rail operations remain suspended.

MAYDON WHARF
The Terminal is operational with a staff compliment of 75%. There is 1 vessel on the berth working with 2 gangs. Landside is operational with MWF receiving chrome and anthracite.

AGRI
The Terminal is operational with a staff compliment of 75%. There is currently no vessel on the berth. Landside is operational and receiving maize trucks.

The TPT Terminal teams are focusing on recovery and will make every effort to minimize delays and improve efficiency.
