South Africa’s port company Transnet has announced new container tariffs to come into force from 1 April 2022 to 31 March 2023.
Transnet Port Terminals (TPT) will increase container terminal handling charges for Container and Ro-Ro, Breakbulk and Agricultural Terminals by a nominal 5% from 1 April 2022.
The following differentiated tariff increases from 1 April 2022 are:
1. Other general tariffs
Empties containers (imports and exports), hatch covers, restows will increase by 5,5%.
2. Reefer changes
- Reefer power supply charges (including surcharges and storage) have been increased by 15%, to account for energy charges which have rapidly increased in the past years.
- Import storage of reefers has been standardised across the year, and the transhipment storage of reefers has been increased to promote evacuation from the terminal within the respective free period allowed.
3. New decongestion changes to be introduced to promote a fluid ecosystem
From January 2022, TPT will be engaging with a working group made up of representatives from shipping lines, cargo owners, transporters and other stakeholders to introduce changes which will promote efficient handling of containers.
