Amended ship transit dues surcharges

The Suez Canal Authority yesterday (27 February) issued today 12 circulars announcing new surcharges on ship transit dues to be applied starting from tomorrow (1 March).

The surcharges relate to:

  • Crude Oil Tankers (5% surcharge on normal transit dues)
  • Petroleum Products Tankers (5% surcharge on normal transit dues)
  • Dry Bulk Vessels (5% surcharge on normal transit dues)
  • Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Carriers (10% surcharge on normal transit dues)
  • Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Carriers (7% surcharge on normal transit dues)
  • Chemical Tankers & Other Liquid Bulk Tankers (10% surcharge on normal transit dues)
  • Container Ships (for southbound vessels, Circular No.3/2021 remains in force. For northbound vessels, however, the following surcharges on tiers of containers situated on the weather-deck of “Containerships” transiting the Suez Canal are amended as follows:
    - for 1 tier: 7%
    - for 2 tiers: 10%
    - for 3 tiers: 12%
    - for 4 tiers: 21%
    - for 5 tiers: 31%
    - for 6 tiers: 37%
    - for 7 tiers: 39%
    - for 8 tiers: 41%
    - for 9 tiers: 43%
    - for 10 tiers: 45%
    - for 11 tiers: 47%
    - for each additional tier of containers above the 11th, the surcharge shall increase by 2%.
  • General Cargo Vessels (7% surcharge on normal transit dues)
  • Roll-On/Roll-Off (Ro/Ro) Vessels (7% surcharge on normal transit dues)
  • Vehicles Carriers (7% surcharge on normal transit dues)
  • Special Floating Units (7% surcharge on normal transit dues)
  • Other Vessels (7% surcharge on normal transit dues)
