Bangladeshi ports keep warning signal hoisted

The severe cyclonic storm ‘Asani’ over West Central Bay and adjoining area moved west-northwestwards over the same area (near Lat. 15.0°N, Long. 84.0°E) and lay centred at 06.00am today (10 May 2022) about 1180km southwest of Chattogram port, 1140km southwest of Cox’s Bazar port, 1040km southwest of Mongla port and 1045km southwest of Payra port. It is likely to move in a northwesterly direction and weaken into a cyclonic storm during next 12 hours.

Maximum sustained wind speed within 64 kms of the severe cyclone.

Centre is about 89kph rising to 117kph in gusts/squalls. Sea will remain high near the severe cyclone centre.

The maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted Distant Warning Signal No. Two.

All fishing boats and trawllers over north bay and deep sea have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution. They are also advised not to venture into the deep sea.
