Impact of national strike

31 May 2022 / Belgium

The ports of Antwerp and Zeebrugge have been impacted by the national strike today (31 May), which is being followed by more workers than anticipated.

The national day of action applies for all government services, whether federal, regional or local. It has been called by three large government trade unions demanding more purchasing power, more respect for social dialogue, more investments in the public sector and more respect for government pensions.

As DAB Vloot is on full strike, no Flemish pilots are being deployed. Westpost / Wandelaar is not operational until midnight. Dutch pilots are still being deployed via Noordpost/Steenbank.

However, pilotage change in Flushing is working normally.

For Antwerp locks, the situation is as follows:
- Boudewijn and Van Cauwelaert locks are only open to inland shipping
- Zandvliet and Berendrecht locks are operational but alternating
- Kallo lock is operational
- The towing company behind the locks is working at half capacity.
