Sainsbury’s And Costa Link Up For New Café Offer

Sainsbury’s and Costa Coffee have announced the launch of a collaboration that will see the rollout of a new in-store café offering.

The agreement will initially see Costa open eleven outlets within Sainsbury’s supermarkets throughout this year as part of a £3m investment. The two brands stated that the collaboration will cater to the “evolving needs and preferences of supermarket customers, who are looking for convenient, great-quality coffee.”

The first of the Costa Coffee cafés has opened at Sainsbury’s Farlington Superstore in Portsmouth, selling drinks and food.

Alongside its ready-to-drink and at-home ranges, Costa already has over 1,000 of its Express machines in Sainsbury’s stores and petrol stations, which sold ten million cups of coffee in 2023.

Nick Ridley, Property Director at Costa Coffee, commented: “We are excited to join forces with Sainsbury’s, bringing our much-loved Costa Coffee experiences to shoppers nationwide. We’re proud that we will soon be able to make a difference to customers looking to catch up with friends and family over lunch or enjoy a beloved Costa coffee after their weekly shop.”

Richard Crampton, Sainsbury’s Director of Fresh Food, added: “We know that customers like the convenience of being able to stop for a drink, snack or sit-down lunch while they’re doing their shopping, and we think that Costa Coffee stores will offer a fantastic opportunity to do this within Sainsbury’s supermarkets. That’s why we’re delighted to be building on our existing collaboration with Costa Coffee to roll out this fantastic new option for customers in our stores over the next year and we’re looking forward to hearing what they think.”
