Click on the questions below to learn more.

The BII Futures Grant is aimed at Master’s degree students and PhD students at Aarhus University. If you apply as a team, your team must include at least one student from Aarhus University. This student must join Aarhus University’s startup hub The Kitchen prior to or immediately after receiving the grant.

In addition, your project must be in human health or planetary health. This includes therapeutics, health tech, sustainable food, industrial biotechnologies, sustainable materials and chemicals.

You don’t need to have founded a company to apply – we accept applications from both incorporated companies and early-stage startup projects.

The BII Futures Grant is a grant of DKK 50,000. You can use the grant to cover a wide range of expenses, such as:

  • Materials
  • External consulting
  • Reports
  • Field trials
  • Market testing and product validation
  • Development and test of prototype
  • Travel expenses
  • Rent of lab space

You can’t use the grant for research projects or development of market-ready products.

As the recipient of the BII Futures Grant, you will have to attend a pitch event at The Kitchen to showcase your startup. We will announce the specific date of the pitch event later.

Six months after receiving the grant, you must also fill in a short report explaining how you are spending the grant money.

To apply for the BII Futures Grant, you must write a two-page description of your project in English using the application template found below.

An external panel will screen the projects and decide which projects will be rewarded a grant. All applications are handled confidentially.

The BII Futures Grant is offered in collaboration between The Kitchen and BioInnovation Institute (BII) – a Danish foundation with corporate interests. BII’s vision is to progress world-class life science innovation by supporting early life science and food tech entrepreneurs, focusing on solutions benefitting people and society.
