COVID-19 impact data month five analysis published

Month five HouseMark COVID-19 impact data shows that the pandemic has prompted digitalisation, with 96% of landlords set to embrace homeworking in the longer term and more than 90% of landlords actively working on digitally transforming services. Key services including repairs, lettings and arrears continue to stabilise, but analysis shows that performance will not return to ‘normal’ levels for some time. The membership-exclusive report is the fifth in the only UK wide series of monthly reports with data up to the end of July 2020.

You can access more headline insights via the
executive summary infographic. The full report, including detailed analysis and best practice from landlords across the UK, is exclusively available to participating organisations.

Data collection for September is now open, and the new from can be downloaded here.

As well as tracking your staffing and key operations, next month we will take a look at:

  • How the pandemic has affected your staffing – in terms of headcount, recruitment and productivity. Is your organisation leaner and more productive than it was at the beginning of the year?
  • Development programmes – how have your plans been affected by the pandemic? Have you got back to normal capacity?

Please note, the deadline to participate in the exercise for September is Friday, 11 September.

Annual cost and performance benchmarking: Are you ready for the deadline at the end of this month?

The deadline for submitting your 2019/20 annual cost data is the end of September. This submission incorporates the employee and non-pay aspects of our model and, combined with your year-end performance data, enables you to understand your productivity in all activity areas and helps to inform targeted service reviews. All participants of this exercise will be offered a Tailored Feedback once data is validated and approved. These sessions are an excellent opportunity for you to discuss your data with an expert in cost, performance and satisfaction data analysis; offering you new perspectives and insight into your cost and performance drivers to assist you in leveraging the most value from your data.

We would encourage you to submit this data to us as soon as possible, in order for us to facilitate earlier benchmarking and feedback opportunities for you. If you need any support in collating the data, or advice on mapping your costs to the HouseMark methodology, please get in touch with the data team.

Budget Forecasts

Landlords who submit annual cost data by the September deadline will automatically qualify to receive their free Budget Forecasts, the third of our COVID-19 response solutions. This will model for changes in income and expenditure due to COVID-19, and provide landlords with forecasts on how key financial metrics are likely to compare at the end of 2020/21.

Those interested in finding out more about HouseMark’s COVID-19 solutions should contact

Additional benchmarking modules

Not only does the end of September bring the deadline for our annual cost and performance data, it is also the deadline for our other annual benchmarking modules; HouseMark STAR (tenant satisfaction), Development, Headline Financials (Global Accounts) and Sector Scorecard.

You can opt in to participate in any of these modules, via the ‘Benchmarking Options’ page of our data entry module.

It is also not too late to submit the year end performance data if you haven’t done so already. Although the deadline has now passed, the data entry portal remains open.

Homes for Cathy – deadline extended

We are working with Homes for Cathy to measure the impact of English housing providers tackling homelessness. Homes for Cathy is asking landlords to send in CORE lettings data on questions such as properties let to homeless households. Once collated, this information will help the group measure its impact and provide evidence to underpin campaigns raising awareness of the sector’s role in ending homelessness.

To take part in the exercise you need to copy columns from your CORE dataset into a specially-designed spreadsheet and email back to H4Cdata@hightownha.org.uk by the extended deadline of 30 September 2020.

You can download the spreadsheet from Homes for Cathy’s website.

To find out more about taking part, please email H4Cdata@hightownha.org.uk or visit the Homes for Cathy website.
