Dear Colleagues

We hope that you had and great holiday season and we wish you all the best in 2020! Welcome to the first Issue of the BRCGS News in 2020 where you will read about our latest products, including our ‘Free From’ range and our Digital Products. Feel free to share with your colleagues and encourage them to keep up to date with BRCGS developments by subscribing here.

Our new ‘Free From’ Range

The popularity of ‘free from’ food has been gathering significant momentum. This reflects a growing sense of unease amongst some consumers over the impact that modern industrial farming methods have on the environment and animal welfare practices, the impact of a predominately meat-based diet on well-being, and health issues relating to allergies. BRCGS has therefore launched two Standards, supported by a robust Compliance programme, to ensure Brand owner confidence, and that manufacturers fulfil their legal obligations and provide protection for the end consumer.

Plant-Based Certification Program

BRCGS launched the first issue of its Plant-Based Standard in January. Training courses and supporting documentation will be available shortly. Audits to the Plant-Based Standard will commence on 3 February 2020 and may be conducted as a standalone or combined with your GFSI audit. Further information about the Standard is available from our website.

We published a White Paper looking at the challenges facing the sector and how manufacturers and brands can ensure trust and informed customer choices.

Gluten-Free Certification Program

We published the third issue of Gluten-Free Certification Program (GFCP). The program is globally recognised and has endorsements from the leading celiac/coeliac organizations. It provides trust that sites are producing gluten-free products that are safe, quality and affordable. Further information about how the benefits and audit process can be found on our website.

Our Gluten-Free Certification Program Issue 3 training courses, which can be booked on the BRCGS Bookshop, can support you through the certification process. Our courses are available as e-learning modules or face-to-face classroom-based training.

Packaging Materials Issue 6 - Support for Basic Hygiene Sites

Audits for Issue 6 will commence from 1 February 2020 and issue 5 will become obsolete.
Going forward there will be one certification level for all sites where hygiene controls will be based on risk.
A new transition document has been published as guidance support sites in their preparation to
implement the new requirements. Please download the document P611 which is available on the
BRCGS website and BRCGS Participate. Please contact your certification body for further clarification.

ETSR Risk Assessment training for sites is now launched. Take advantage of our introductory offer by downloading module 1 for FREE before purchasing the remaining 3. Visit BRCGS Bookshop to learn more. With the emergence of the conscientious consumer, we published a White paper in January setting out how consumers get the reassurance they seek, and workers the protection they deserve.

BRCGS recently published the Interpretation Guideline for the Global Standard for Ethical Trade and Responsible Sourcing. Click here for more information.
