01 Avian influenza outbreaks expected to rise with the autumn migration

With autumn approaching, preparation is being made in France regarding its vaccine programme. Global spread of H5N1 has been found in in multiple bird species in Antarctica, some of which migrate to other parts of the world throughout the year.

02 UK E. coli outbreak in 2022 linked to heavy rainfall

A report into a large outbreak of STEC O157:H7 in the United Kingdom in 2022 has revealed that lettuce contaminated by animal waste during flooding was the likely vehicle of infection. This was the largest outbreak of E.coli since the early 1980s. 

03 Locally made pesto linked to botulism cases in France

Five cases of botulism have been reported in the Centre-Val-de-Loire region with all being hospitalised in intensive care. All five ate a locally-produced wild garlic pesto.

04 Foodborne illness data for 2023 in New Zealand released

A report from the Institute for Environmental and Scientific Research (ESR) in New Zealand has revealed mixed results of foodborne infections in 2023; with an increase in Campylobacter and Salmonella cases, but a decline in Listeria and E.coli infections.

05 Eggs behind Salmonella outbreak in Mid-West

Fresh eggs have been recalled in Wisconsin and Illinois in connection with a Salmonella Enteritidis outbreak that has caused at least 65 illnesses.
