Karin Lykke-Hartmann: "The award is proof that we have managed to translate raw research into something concrete and useful"
Professor at the Department of Biomedicine, Karin Lykke-Hartmann, has received AU's award for collaboration and innovation: the Else Kai Sass Award 2024. The award not only recognizes her significant contributions to fertility research but also her leap into the world of entrepreneurship.
Karin Lykke-Hartmann's entrepreneurial adventure began when she and her team made a discovery with the potential to change fertility treatment for women with diminished ovarian reserve (DOR).
Today, Karin Lykke-Hartmann is a part-time researcher at Aarhus University while simultaneously leading the spinout company Notify Therapeutics, which has raised more than DKK 55 million in funding.
"It means a lot to me to receive the Else Kai Sass Award. It is proof that we have managed to translate raw research into something concrete and useful," she states.

Startup from Aarhus University will protect biodiversity with new AI-technology
Hjalte Mann is PhD in Biology from Aarhus University and founder of the startup Tecology that offers new possibilities for automated nature monitoring.
In a new research collaboration, Tecology has installed three BeeSee stations in Thy National Park. The stations are equipped with cameras and computers that use artificial intelligence to monitor and record insect life in real time. The aim is to collect data on the vulnerable insect populations and their activity in the national park – data that can play a crucial role in future nature projects.
“We have developed a technology that opens up completely new possibilities in nature monitoring. The collaboration with Thy National Park is fantastic because it helps us to ensure that we push the technology in the right direction so that it can make a difference to those who actually manage our nature."

Women Founders Network kick-off to empower more female entrepreneurs
How can educational institutions and society support more women in starting a business?
This was the big question, when the European university alliance Circle U. kicked off their new Women Founders Network in Pisa. The aim of the network is to support entrepreneurship and innovation among female students so that they can be inspired to start businesses themselves.
16 women from six European universities participated in the first network meeting, including two founders from The Kitchen: Shaeema Zaman from Science Melting Pot and Ida Bergholdt, founder of a startup in the field of neuroscience.
The event will be followed by online meetings and a large joint event in Aarhus in April 2025.
If you are curious about becoming part of the network, contact Merethe Kruse at mekr@au.dk
